Dental braces

A traditional and effective method of teeth straightening

Braces are one of the most common, oldest and most effective methods for straightening teeth (orthodontic treatment). They consist of metal or ceramic brackets that are glued to the teeth and connected by archwires. This structure allows the teeth to be moved into the correct position in a controlled manner over time.

Modern dental braces

In addition to traditional metal braces, there are many modern options on the market today that offer different levels of discreetness and comfort. These include:

Ceramic braces

A more discreet option, with tooth-colored or transparent brackets.

Lingual braces

Braces that are attached to the inner surface of the teeth and are not visible from the outside.

When are braces a better option than aligners?

Although orthodontic clear aligners have become more common due to their discreetness and convenience, braces are still the better choice in many cases. Braces are particularly effective in situations where:

  • Moving teeth requires precise control and large movements.
  • The patient's teeth are very crowded or there is a significant bite defect.
  • Orthodontic treatment requires constant application of force to the teeth.
  • The patient is unable or unwilling to commit to the continuous use and replacement of orthodontic membranes.

The advantages and disadvantages of braces compared to other orthodontic methods

Benefits

  • Suitable for complex orthodontic needs.
  • Does not require the user to constantly remember (unlike removable orthodontic membranes).
  • An effective solution also for severe bite defects.
  • Often a more cost-effective option for longer-duration treatments.

Disadvantages

  • A more visible option compared to orthodontic membranes.
  • May cause initial discomfort and irritation of the oral mucosa.
  • Requires careful oral hygiene to prevent food attaching to the braces.
  • Regular checks and tightening may cause occasional pain or soreness.
  • Control visits can be more frequent and first aid appointments are more common compared to orthodontic membranes.

Braces are "in" again

Especially among young people, braces have even become a trendy accessory in recent years. One reason for this is the possibility to personalise them, for example by choosing coloured rubber bands or even gold or silver coloured metal parts. This allows users to express their own style and make orthodontics a more fun experience.

Although braces are a traditional method, they have continuously evolved, offering effective and personalised solutions for orthodontic treatment. The choice of treatment option is influenced by each patient's individual needs and goals, but braces remain one of the most reliable and versatile options.

At Ebeling Dentists, we will always find the treatment that best suits your needs and preferences.

The price of braces

Orthodontic treatment is always a unique plan tailored to the patient’s individual needs, and therefore the costs vary. Orthodontic treatment with braces typically costs a total of 3500 €8000 €. The retention phase—that is, maintaining the results of treatment after it is complete—is always included in the total cost of orthodontic treatment at our clinic. You can get a more detailed price estimate during your consultation.
