Dental implants are a worthwhile investment
Tooth loss is rarely a small matter. A missing tooth is not just an aesthetic nuisance, but sooner or later it starts to affect your bite. A missing tooth can be replaced with an implant, for example.
In implant treatment, a titanium, screw-shaped artificial root is placed in the jawbone and the visible part of the tooth, the crown, is attached to it. If well cared for, the implant will last for decades, often for the rest of the wearer's life.

Immediate implantation speeds up treatment
Immediate implantation reduces the duration of implant treatment, reduces the number of surgical procedures and improves aesthetics. In immediate implant treatment, the artificial root and temporary crown are placed in the extraction well immediately after tooth extraction, during a single visit.
After the first treatment, the implant screws are given a few months to ossify, after which a permanent, usually ceramic, dental crown can be attached to the implant. The curing period is the same as for traditional implant treatment.
When implantation is performed immediately, treatment is faster than usual and the results are often more aesthetic than usual.
Comparison of traditional implant treatment and implant implantation
- Number of office visits and surgical procedures. With immediate implant placement, all stages of treatment are completed in a single visit. Traditional implant treatment typically requires two separate surgical procedures—tooth extraction and implant placement—from which the patient must recover separately.
- Waiting time. Immediate implants reduce the waiting time. In immediate implant treatment, a temporary crown is placed immediately. With traditional implant placement, patients often have to go without a crown for several months. The length of the waiting period is particularly significant when replacing front teeth.
- Aesthetics. During immediate implantation, the gingival flap is not opened, as is done in traditional implant treatment. Potential aesthetic drawbacks are avoided when the implant is placed directly through the extraction site.
- Durability. Both traditional and immediate implants remain in place for decades, often for the rest of the patient’s life. According to peer-reviewed studies, the longevity of immediate implants is comparable to that of traditional implants.
- Minimal bone loss: the bone tissue does not have time to weaken in the absence of a tooth.
Immediate implant treatment in a healthy mouth
Before starting implant treatment, a clinical examination of the mouth is carried out by a specialist dentist, supplemented by X-rays. A thorough examination provides guidelines for the treatment. The treatment can be carried out in a healthy and non-infected mouth.
- Immediate implants are only suitable for patients with sufficiently healthy and intact bone and tissue around the tooth. For example, gingivitis needs to be treated before implantation and immediate implantation is not suitable for situations requiring a bone graft due to a weakened jawbone.

Prices for dental implants start at 2600 €: In the case of an immediate implant, where the tooth is extracted during the same visit, a temporary crown is also billed, as well as cost of a tooth extraction, which depends on the difficulty of removal (119 €–522 € (after Kela reimbursement).
